Dear Bruin Band Families and Students,
I hope you are well and staying safe during these tumultuous times. I wanted to take a moment today to update you on the state of affairs in the Forest Park Bruin Bands program. First and foremost, I wanted to congratulate our wonderful senior class upon their graduation from Forest Park High School! The Class of 2020 consisted of some truly amazing students and they will be dearly missed in the program. Alumni are always welcome to come back and visit!
Secondly, I wanted to thank all of our students, parents and boosters for a fantastic and productive academic year! Hardworking students and supportive parents are truly what creates a successful band program. Thank you so much again for everyone’s efforts; these beautiful performances, successful fundraisers and wonderful social events could not happen without you!
Lastly, I wanted to let you know that your Bruin Band Boosters and I are continuing to meet and plan for next year, despite much of the uncertainty that surrounds the state of public education in Virginia. We are currently planning as if next year will be normal, but we must be prepared to stay flexible in terms of scheduling and potential cancellations due to the pandemic. Providing our student’s with the best music education has been and always will be my top priority and I am currently researching numerous technological options that will allow us to continue the culture of musical excellence that the Bruin Band Program has been known for. The Bruin Band family is my family and I will continue to keep you updated during the summer months ahead. Please stay safe Bruins and as always, if anyone has any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at davernsw@pwcs.edu.
Sincerely,
Shawn W. Davern
Director of Bands
